laubabwerfender, ausladender Baum bis zu 12 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, ca. 12 cm langen und 15 cm breiten, tief eingeschnittenen, doppelt gesägten, unterseits leicht behaarten, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die langgestielten, grünlichen Kätzchenblüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von eßbaren, roten, bei Reife schwarzen, schmackhaften, brombeerähnlichen Früchten
