mehrjähriger, laubabwerfender, milchsaftführender, krautiger Schlinger bis zu 3 m und höher mit gegenständig angeordneten, sehr variablen, tiefgrünen Blättern, die länglich-schmal, lanzettlich- spitzzulaufend, herz- oder pfeilförmig sein können. Die bis zu 10 cm großen, kurzgestielten, sternförmig angeordneten, 5-petaligen, purpurfarbenen, mit weißen Haaren umsäumten Blüten und 5 verwachsenen Kronblättern erscheinen in kleinen Büscheln in den Blattachseln
