immergrüner, hoher, vielverzweigter Baum bis zu 36 m (in Kultur bis zu 4 m) mit ausladender Krone und bis zu 60 ø dicken Stamm, wechselständig angeordneten, länglich ovalen bis lanzettlichen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit auffälliger Nervatur. Die duftenden, hellgelben bis cremefarbenen, 6-petaligen Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln, denen bei Reife rot-violettfarbene Beerenfrüchten in Büscheln folgen.
