immergrüner, rundkroniger Baum mit gegenständig angeordneten, bis ca. 15 m mit langen, lanzettlichen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit rötlich gefärbtem Neuaustrieb. Die grünlich-weißen Blüten mit herausragenden weißen Staubfäden erscheinen in endständigen Dolden, denen eßbare gelbe bis rote birnenförmige nach Rosen duftende Beerenfrüchte folgen
