immergrüner, vielverzweigter Strauch mit ausladenden Zweigen oder kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m und wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 11 cm langen, länglich ovalen, dick ledrigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern. Die gestielten, leicht haarigen, hellgelben Blüten erscheinen einzeln in den Blattachseln, denen eßbare, bei Reife dunkel violettfarbene bis schwarze Beerenfrüchten in Büscheln folgen
