immergrüner Baum bis zu 10 m (am Naturstandort bis zu 40 m) mit dichter Krone und bis zu 1 m ø dickem, grauen bis gelb-grauem Stamm und bis zu 3 m hohen Brettwurzeln, wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen, bis zu 15 cm langen und 6 cm breiten, elliptischen, zugespitzten, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die gelblich-weißen Blüten erscheinen in bis zu 9 cm langen Rispen in den Blattachseln. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, ca. 6,5 cm lange, elliptische bis zylindrische, bei Reife grüne Steinfrüchte mit leuchtend gelb-orangefarbenem, weichem, saftigem, Fruchtfleisch mit süßem bis leicht bitterem Geschmack. Jede Frucht enthält nur 1 Samenkorn
