immergrüner, langsamwüchsiger, stark verzweigter, kurzstämmiger Baum bis zu 15 m mit dichter Krone und gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 7 cm langen und 3 cm breiten, länglich-ovalen, ledrigen, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die kleinen, weißen Blüten mit unzähligen Staubfäden erscheinen in dichten Büscheln an Stamm (Kauliflorie) und älteren Ästen (Ramiflorie), gefolgt von eßbaren, weintraubengroßen, bei Reife purpur-schwarzen Früchten
