immergrüner bis laubabwerfender, ausladender Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis ca. 8 m mit gräulich-schwarzer Rinde, behaarten Zweigen und gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 18 cm langen und 10 cm breiten, ovalen bis elliptischen, tiefgrünen, unterseits hellgrünen, zart behaarten Blättern. Die duftenden, kurzgestielten, ca. 3 cm großen, fleischigen, gelben Blüten erscheinen einzeln oder in Gruppen in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von ovalen oder rundlichen grünen, weiß gefleckten, bei Reife gelben oder orangefarbenen Früchten mit Ananasgeschmack
