immergrüner, kleiner Strauch bis zu 2 m mit wechselständig angeordnten, bis zu 30 cm langen, schmal lanzettlichen, tiefgrünen Blättern (im Jugendstadium bis zu 30 cm lang und 4 cm breit, 3-4 tief gelappt, breit eiförmig). Die bis zu 5 cm großen violetten Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln, aus denen sich bis zu 2,5 cm große, kugelförmige, grüne Früchte entwickeln
