laubabwerfender, zweihäusiger Baum bis ca. 20 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 15 cm langen, ovalen bis elliptischen oder auch 1- bis 3-gelappten, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit gelber bis purpurfarbener Herbstfärbung. Die grünlich-gelben Blüten erscheinen in endständigen Dolden meist vor dem Laubaustrieb und verströmen einen angenehmen Zitronenduft.
