laubabwerfender, ausladender Baum bis zu 30 m (in Kultur meist nur bis ca. 9 m) mit dicht belaubter Krone und wechselständig angeordneten, ca. 40 cm langen, gefiederten Blättern, die sich aus bis zu 15 unpaarig angeordneten, lanzettlichen, oberseits tiefgrünen, unterseits helleren, oftmals gebogenen Blättchen mit gesägten Blatträndern und einem endständigen Blatt zusammensetzen. Die männlichen, grünlich-gelben Blüten (Kätzchen) sitzen in langen, schmalen, herabhängenden Rispen, die weiblichen, kleinen, ebenfalls grünlich-gelben Blüten erscheinen abgewinkelt am Ende der Triebe, gefolgt von rauhen, dünnschaligen, eher flachen, 4-kantigen, ca. 3 cm langen, braunen Steinfrüchten

Stratification: ca. 3-4 months in moist sowing mix at 2-5°C in the fridge

Sowing Mix: Coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite
Alternative: in fall/winter sowing in unheated greenhouse
Germination Temperature: ca. 18-20°C
Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: until germination takes place
Irrigation: in the growing season richly water. Due to the natural site, in the swampy areas, will also tolerated waterlogging over a longer period of time
Fertilization: biweekly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: slightly acid substrate (pH 5,5 - 6,5) + 2/3 sand or perlite
Culture: in the 1st year bright or dark at approx. 0-5ºC + keep slightly moist only
Overwintering: After this period, older specimens can be planted safely outdoors, preferably in the vicinity of waters.
