immergrüner Strauch oder auch kleiner bis mittelgroßer Baum bis zu 10 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, schmal länglich-ovalen bis elliptischen, oberseits grau-grünen bis glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits hellen, silbrig schimmernden Blättern und kleinen, weißen, cremefarbenen oder grünlich-weißen Blüten in achselständigen, oder auch in endständigen, lockeren Büscheln, aus denen sich kleine, eiförmige, eßbare, bei Reife dunkelbraune bis schwarze Früchte entwickeln
