immergrüner, zweihäusiger, vielverzweigter, stark bedornter Strauch bis 3 m oder kleiner Baum bis 8 m mit grauer Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, ca. 5 cm langen, kurzgestielten, ovalen, glänzend grünen Blättern. Die kleinen grünlich-gelben oder sahneweißen Blüten erscheinen büschelweise in den Blattachseln, denen essbare, rundliche bis ovale, ca. 4-5 cm ø große, bei Reife gelbe Früchte mit aprikosenartigem, sauren Geschmack folgen
