schnellwüchsiger, immergrüner, dichtbelaubter Baum bis ca. 18 m mit rundlicher Krone und zylindrischen Stamm mit korkiger Rinde bis zu 45 cm. Die wechselständig angeordneten, tiefgrünen Blätter bestehen aus gegenständig angeordneten, ovalen Einzelblättchen. Die endständigen, aufrechten Blütenbüschel bestehen aus zahlreichen kleinen langgestielten, röhrenförmigen roten Blüten und weit herausragenen Staubblättern, die kleinen Puderquasten ähneln
