rhizombildender, laubabwerfender, buschiger Bodendecker bis zu 20 cm mit bis zu 6 quirlig angeordneten, ovalen zugespitzen, tiefgrünen Blättern und orange- bis rötlich-brauner Herbstfärbung. Die bis zu 25 kleinen Blüten erscheinen in Dolden, umgeben von bis zu 4 weißen Hochblättern und erscheinen am Ende der Triebe, denen eßbare, kugelige, bei Reife strahlend rote Früchte erscheinen.
