mehrjährige, immergrüne oder laubabwerfende, rhizombildende Staude bis zu 2,5 m mit langgestielten großen, mittelgrünen Blättern und aufrechten Blütenständen mit spiralförmig angeordneten strahlend roten Brakteen, die die eher unscheinbaren gelben Blüten umhüllen.
Verschiedenen Aussagen zufolge ist dies ist eine der wenigen Helikonien die in milden Regionen mit entsprechend Winterschutz ins Freiland gepflanzt werden kann!

Pre-Treatment:	roughen, pour hot water over the seeds + soak ca. 24-48 h

Alternative:	in a zip bag with damp paper towels > until germination takes place
Germination Temperature:	ca. 27-30°C
Location:	bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time:	ca. 4-24 weeks > irregular
Irrigation:	in the growing season regularly water
Fertilization:	biweekly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests:	Scale insects, Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate:	humus soil + sand or perlite
Culture:	in the 1st year bright at approx. 5-10ºC + keep constantly moist
Overwintering:	After this time period older specimens can be planted with appropriate winter protection outdoors. Container plants bright at approx. 0-5ºC and just so much water that the root ball not dries out completely.
Note:	At frost the plants die back on the ground and should be covered with thick mulch. The plants sprout again from the ground in the spring.
