immergrüner oder auch halb-immergrüner, verholzender Ranker mit gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 10 cm langen, dicken, ledrigen, eiförmig-elliptischen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern, wobei die oberen Blättchen ca. 10 cm lange Ranken bilden. Die trichterförmigen, zartlila bis lavendelfarbenen Blüten mit weißer Röhre und bis zu 5 cm breitem Saum erscheinen in dichten Büscheln mit bis zu 25 Einzelblüten in den Blattachseln oder am Ende der Triebe. Sowohl Blüten als auch Blätter sind eßbar und verströmen beim Schneiden und Zerreiben einen zarten Knoblauchduft
