Synonyme: Bombax pentandrum, Eriodendrum anfractuosum

in der Trockenzeit laubabwerfender Baum mit schirmförmiger bis runder Krone bis ca. 60 m und höher. Im Alter bilden sich riesige Brettwurzeln. Junge Bäume sind mit starken Dornen besetzt und großen langgestielten, glänzend, tiefgrünen, fingerförmig gelappten Blättern, die sich aus bis zu 5-9 ovalen, ca. 20 cm langen Blättchen zusammensetzen. Die duftenden Blütendolden bestehen aus weißen, gelben oder rosafarbenen, glockigen Blüten und 5 lang herausragenden Staubblättern mit gelben Staubbeuteln, die am Ende der Zweige, oftmals noch vor dem Laubaustrieb erscheinen, gefolgt von hängenden, bis ca. 30 cm langen, ledrigen Kapseln, gefüllt mit weißer Wolle in denen die Samen gebettet sind

Substrate: cactus or potting soil + 2/3 sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 15-20°C + keep constant slightly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 10-15°C and only so much water that the root ball not dries out completely.
Note: regular pruning promotes better branching
