immergrüner, zweihäusiger, dichtbelaubter, bedornter Strauch oder Baum bis zu 15 m und wechselständig angeordneten, kurzgestielten, bis zu 9 cm langen und 6 cm breiten, elliptischen bis verkehrt eiförmigen, glänzend grünen Blättern. Die kleinen, gelblich-weißen Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln in den Blattachseln. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, ovale, bis zu 1,5 cm langen, strahlend orange bis roten, weiß gefleckten Früchte mit saurem Geschmack
