Synonyme: Achras cainito, Chrysophyllum cainito var. cainito

immergrüner, hoher Baum bis zu 20 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 15 cm langen, ledrigen, ovalen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits samtig behaarten goldbraunen Blättern und kleinen, süßlich duftenden, weißlich-violetten Blüten, aus denen sich eßbare, eiförmige oder runde, bei Reife violette Früchte mit süßem, aromatischem Fruchtfleisch entwickeln. Der innere Kern der Samen ist eßbar und wird als Mandelersatz verwendet.
Verwendung: Nur vollreife Beeren sind eßbar und werden frisch aus der Frucht gelöffelt oder zu Desserts und Säften verarbeitet.
