laubabwerfender, verholzender, robuster Ranker mit bis zu 12 cm langen, wechselständig angeordneten, ovalen bis elliptischen, mittelgrünen Blättern mit leicht gesägten Rändern an rötlich gefärbten Blattstielen. Die bis zu 2,5 cm großen, strahlend roten, nickenden Blüten erscheinen einzeln in den Blattachseln, denen eßbare, bei Reife scharlachrote, fleischige Früchte in hängenden Ähren folgen
