immergrüner, breitkroniger Baum bis ca. 10 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern. Die leuchtend orange-gelben Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich bis zu 15 cm große, eßbare dunkelgrüne Früchte mit orange-gelbem, aromatischem Fruchtfleisch. Die Früchte sind mit vielen fleischigen kurzen Stacheln besetzt
