rhizombildende Staude bis zu 3,5 m mit bis zu 60 cm langen und 40 cm breiten, oval-elliptischen, sattgrünen Blättern, die einzeln aus jedem Knoten des Rhizoms entstehen. Die hell violetten Blüten erscheinen aus den niedrigsten Knoten. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare fleischige Beeren mit sehr süßem Geschmack. Die Frucht ist mit einem fleischigen roten Aril bedeckt, das ist der Teil, der Thaumatin enthält und hat das Potenzial als Süßstoff. Bei Genuss des fleischigen Teils, entsteht ein Molekül an den Geschmacksnerven der Zunge, wodurch saure Lebensmittel süss schmecken

Culture: bright at approx. 20°C + keep constantly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 5-10°C and according to ambient temperature keep slightly moist always.
Note: Indoor culture is possible with high humidity and light!
