laubabwerfender, zweihäusiger Baum bis zu 25 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 32 cm langen und 10 cm breiten, ovalen bis lanzettlichen mittelgrünen Blättern mit auffällig, heller Nervatur. An den endständigen, aufrechten Blütenrispen erscheinen zahlreiche, weibliche, rubinrote Blüten in Ähren, die männlichen mit kleinen cremefarbenen Blüten
