immergrüner, dichtbelaubter Strauch bis zu 2,5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 16 cm langen, ovalen bis elliptischen, ledrigen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits helleren Blättern. Die bis zu 5 cm großen, duftenden, purpurfarbenen, stieltellerförmigen Blüten mit langer Kronröhre und flach ausgebreiteten Kronblättern mit weißem Schlund erscheinen einzeln oder paarweise in den Blattachseln und verfärben sich beim Verblühen über hell lavendel zu weiß
