immergrüner, zweihäusiger, dichtbelaubter, bedornter Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 7 m mit grau-brauner Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, kurzgestielten, ca. 4,5 cm langen und 2 cm breiten ovalen, glänzend grünen Blättern und kleinen, grünlichen Blüten in Büscheln in den Blattachseln. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich essbare, rundliche bis eiförmige, bis zu 5 cm ø, glänzend grüne, bei Reife rote, fleischige Früchte
