immergrüner, mittelgroßer bis großer Baum bis zu 20 m mit rundlicher Krone und wechselständig angeordneten Blättern, die sich aus gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 10 cm langen und 4 cm breiten, sichelförmigen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits helleren Blättchen zusammensetzen. Die kleinen, sternförmigen, creme-weißen Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln oder Rispen. Aus den Blüten entwickelns sich eßbare, strahlend rote Früchte
