immergrüner bis halb-immergrüner Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 10 m mit schuppiger, bräunlich-grauer Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 10 cm langen und 4 cm breiten, elliptischen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits helleren Blättern. Die grünlich-gelben, weiblichen und männlichen Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln am selben Baum. Die kürbisförmigen, gerippten Früchte sind bei Reife, hellgrün oder weiß, creme, grün-orange bis rot
