immergrüner, hoher, vielverzweigter Baum bis zu 20 m mit ausladenden Zweigen und wechselständig angeordneten bis zu 12 cm langen, lanzettlichen, dick ledrigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern. Die langgestielten, gelben, 6-petaligen Blüten mit dunkelrotem Zentrum erscheinen einzeln oder paarweise am Ende der Triebe, denen eßbare, bei Reife purpurrote Beerenfrüchten in Büscheln folgen
