laubabwerfender, kleiner Baum bis zu 6 m mit verdicktem Stamm und wechselständig angeordneten, langgestielten, kleinen, 3-gelappten, breit-eiförmigen tiefgrünen Blättern. Die grünlich-gelben Blüten mit auffälligem rosa bis rot gestreiftem Schlund erscheinen einzeln oder in wenig blühenden Büscheln am alten Holz und jungen Zweigen vor dem Neuaustrieb. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich bis zu 5 schnabelförmige Fruchtblätter
