laubabwerfender, dorniger Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis ca. 3 m mit wechselständig, angeordneten, an den Blattstielen mit 2 Dornen versehenen, ca. 3,5 cm langen, ovalen bis elliptischen, oberseits, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit gesägten Blatträndern. Die kleinen, gelblich-grünen, zart duftenden Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von eßbaren, bei Reife roten Steinfrüchten mit saurem Geschmack
