immergrüner Strauch bis 6 m oder kleiner, dicht belaubter Baum bis zu 15 m mit ca. 15 cm langen, gegenständig angeordneten, länglich ovalen bis elliptischen, glänzend sattgrünen Blättern. Die achselständigen, duftenden, weißen, Blüten mit zahlreichen, weit herausragenden Staubfäden erscheinen einzeln oder in Gruppen zu 3 bis 4 Blüten, gefolgt von eßbaren, gelb-orangefarbenen, kleinen Früchten von herb saurem Geschmack
