immergrüne, rhizombildende Staude bis ca. 3 m mit wechselständig, spiralförmig angeordneten, bis zu 20 cm langen oval-lanzettlichen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern und aufrechten kegelförmigen Blütenständen an den Triebenden, bestehend aus zahlreichen, grünen Brakteen mit rötlichem Rand, die je 2 duftende, kleine weiße Blüten mit pink-violettem Saum und auffälligem, dunkelgelbem Fleck umschließen
