laubabwerfender, oftmals Brettwurzeln bildender, hoher Baum bis zu 25 m (am Naturstandort bis zu 40 m) mit ausladender Krone, brauner Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten Blättern,  bestehend aus 3-5 gegenständig angeordneten, ca. 14 cm langen und 6 cm breiten, eiförmig-breit elliptischen, ledrigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättchen. Die süßlich duftenden großen Blüten mit 4 ungleich großen, grünlichen Kelchblättern und einem großen, fast kreisrundem, hell-purpurfarbenem Kronblatt und zahlreichen, herausragenden Staubfäden erscheinen am Ende der Zweige, gefolgt von großen, ca. 20 cm langen holzigen Samenhülsen, die große und schwere schwarz/dunkelgelbfarbene Samen enthalten

Pests: Spider mites > especially under glass

Culture: in the 1st year bright at approx. 15-20ºC + keep constantly moist + protected from the wind
Overwintering: Older specimens bright or dark at about 10-15°C and according to ambient temperature in larger intervals and only water in small quantities that the root ball not dries out completely.
Note: drought-tolerant!
