laubabwerfender, kleiner bedornter, dicht verzweigter Strauch bis zu 2 m mit grau-brauner Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, länglich ovalen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern bis zu 4 cm, mit leicht gezähnten Blatträndern. Die achselständigen, kleinen, 5-petaligen, grünlich-gelben Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln, und entwickeln eßbare, ca. 2 cm große, rundliche, bei Reife dunkelblaue bis schwarze Steinfrüchte
