immergrüner oder auch laubabwerfender Baum bis zu 35 m mit dichter Krone und bis zu 1,5 m ø dickem, grauen Stamm und bis zu 3 m hohen Brettwurzeln, wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen, bis zu 20 cm langen und 9 cm breiten, elliptischen bis lanzettlichen, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die grünlich-weißen oder gelblichen Blüten erscheinen in bis zu 15 cm langen Rispen in den Blattachseln, oftmals noch vor dem Laubaustrieb. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, ca. 6,5 cm lange, elliptische bis zylindrische, bei Reife grüne Steinfrüchte mit leuchtend gelb-orangefarbenem, weichem, saftigem, Fruchtfleisch mit süßem bis leicht bitterem Geschmack. Jede Frucht enthält nur 1 Samenkorn

Fertilization: monthly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Scale insects, Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: potting soil + sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 20°C + keep constantly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 15-20°C and according to ambient temperature keep slightly moist always.
