caudexbildender, zur Trockenzeit laubabwerfender Baum bis zu 20 m mit einer ausladenden, offenen Krone und langgestielten, wechselständig angeordneten Blättern, bestehend aus 5 elliptischen, bis zu 12 cm langen, tiefgrünen Blättchen mit rötlichem Neuaustrieb. Die aufrechten, weißen Blüten mit 5 zurückgeschlagenen Kronblättern und unzähligen, bis zu 10 cm langen, weit herausragenden Staubfäden erscheinen am Ende der Triebe am meist unbelaubten Holz
