immergrüner, wenig verzweigter, kleiner Strauch bis zu 2 m mit vierkantigen, borkigen Zweigen und kreuzgegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 30 cm langen, breit eiförmigen bis verkehrt eiförmigen, ledrigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit heller Mittelrippe und ausfälliger Nervatur. Die bis zu 30 cm langen, hängenden Rispen bestehen aus bis zu 100 kleinen, ca, 2,5 cm breiten, rosa- bis korallenroten Blüten mit großen, rosafarbenen Tragblättern und erscheinen in den Blattachseln unterhalb von zwei gegenständigen Blättern.
