Dear plant and garden enthusiasts,
Over many years, we have had the pleasure of accompanying you on your gardening journey with exotic seed rarities and plants from around the world. Watching things grow together has brought us great joy. But every project has its time—and for us, the moment has come to step back. Due to health reasons, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to permanently close the sunshine-seeds.de online shop and enter our well-deserved retirement. This decision was not an easy one for us. However, our health now requires our full attention. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your many years of loyalty, the trust you have placed in us, and your enthusiasm for our green rarities! Important information regarding the shop closure:
Our shop will remain open until September 30, 2026.
The last day to place an order is September 25, 2026. Please feel free to use this time to secure your favorite seeds one last time.
Processing: All paid orders received by September 25, 2026, will, of course, be processed, packed, and shipped reliably as usual.

Phytolacca dioica

Zweihäusige Kermesbeere, Elefantenbaum, Elephant Tree, Ombúbaum

schnellwüchsiger, immergrüner bis halb-immergrüner, zweihäusiger Baum bis zu 25 m mit ausladender, dichter, schirmförmiger Krone, kurzem, dicken Stamm, hellgrauer, im Alter rissige Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, langgestielten, bis zu 15 cm langen, ledrigen ovalen bis elliptischen tiefgrünen Blättern mit auffällig heller Mittelrippe. Bei Laubfall färben sich die Blätter von gelb zu purpurfarben. Die 5-petaligen männlichen weißen Blüten mit bis zu 30 Staubblättern besitzen keine echten Kronblätter, weiblichen Blüten mit kugeligem Fruchtknoten erscheinen in hängenden oder auch aufrechten Trauben in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von bis zu 21 cm dicken, fleischigen beerenähnlichen, hellgrünen, bei Reife rötlichen Früchten in hängenden Trauben

Overwintering:	Ältere Exemplare bei ca. 0-5ºC und nur soviel gießen, daß der Wurzelballen nicht völlig austrocknet. In mildern Regionen kann ein Auspflanzversuch an einem sonnigen geschützten Standort mit entsprechend Winterschutz gewagt werden.
