immergrüner, kleiner Baum bis zu 10 m (seltener bis zu 20 m) mit einer ausladenden Krone und wechselständig, angeordneten, ca. 20 cm langen, gefiederten, papierartigen Blättern, bestehend aus paarig angeordneten, 7 cm langen und 3 cm breiten, ovalen, tiefgrünen Blättchen. Die kleinen, weißen Blüten mit herausragenden Staubgefäßen erscheinen mit 3-5 Blüten in vielverzweigten, aufrechten Rispen am Ende der Triebe, gefolgt von eßbaren, bei reife orange-roten Früchten mit eßbaren, streng duftenden Samen
