immergrüner, kleiner Strauch bis ca. 2 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, tiefgrünen, ovalen, zugespitzten, ledrigen Blättern mit deutlich gekennzeichneter, eingesunkener Mittelrippe und endständigen erscheinenden Blütenbüscheln mit paarweisen oder zu mehreren kleinen weissen bis hell purpurfarben überhauchten, hängenden, becherförmigen Blüten, denen kleine essbare, nach Erdbeeren schmeckende rote Beerenfrüchte folgen
