immergrüner, dichtkroniger, rundlicher Baum bis zu 15 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, ledrigen, elliptischen bis herzförmigen, oberseits, bläulich-grünen, unterseits hellgrünen Blättern mit strahlend rotem Neuaustrieb. Die cremefarbenen bis zart rosa gefärbten, duftenden Blüten, mit weit herausragenden Staubfäden erscheinen am Ende der Zweige, gefolgt von eßbaren, ca. 1,5 cm großen, ovalen, roten, bei Reife purpur-schwarzen Früchten mit leicht säuerlichem Geschmack
