immergrüne bis laubabwerfende, rhizombildende Staude bis zu 1,2 m und kleinen, smaragdgrünen, glänzenden, elefantenohr-ähnlichen Blättern mit ausgeprägter Nervatur und purpurfarbener Zeichnung auf kräftigen, aufrechten Stielen. Der aufrechte, weisse Blütenstand erscheint aus den Blattachseln umgeben mit einer gelblich-grünen Spatha (Hüllblatt)
