immergrüner, vielverzweigter Strauch oder kleiner, buschiger Baum bis ca. 10 m (am Naturstandort bis zu 30 m) mit spiralförmig am Ende der Triebe angeordneten, elliptischen, ca. 15 cm langen und 5 cm breiten, zugespitzen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern (im Jugendstadium bis zu 25 cm lang und gelappt). Die nektarreichen, langgestielten, ca. 7,5 cm ø orangeroten Blüten sitzen in aufrechten dichten Büscheln am Ende der Triebe
