immergrüner oder auch laubabwerfender, vielverzweigter, kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern, zusammengesetzt aus bis zu 2 cm langen und 1 cm breiten, schmal ovalen, 6-11-paarigen, gefiederten Blättchen. Die strahlend rot bis pinkfarbenen Blüten mit herausragenden Staubfäden erscheinen in lockeren, dichten Büscheln am Ende der Triebe, gefolgt von flachen Samenschoten, die die eßbaren Samen enthalten
