immergrüner Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 8 m mit kletternden Zweigen und gegenständig angeordneten, ca. 15 cm langen, lanzettlichen, ledrigen, oberseits glänzend rötlich-tiefgrünen Blättern. Die bis zu 10 cm langen, röhrenförmigen, intensiv duftenden, leicht zurückgeschlagenen, 5-petaligen Blüten erscheinen in viel verzweigten Trauben. Die Blütenfarbe wechselt von weiß über gelb in orangefarben innerhalb des nächsten Tages, Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich bei Reife orangefarbene oder rote Beerenfrüchte
