Afrikanischer Affenbrotbaum, Baobab, Dead-Rat Tree, Monkey-Bread Tree
Synonyme: Adansonia baobab, Adansonia situla, Adansonia sulcata, Adansonia somalensis

laubabwerfender, großer ausladender Baum bis ca. 20 m mit grauer, korkig eingerißener Rinde und flaschenförmig geschwollenen Stamm bis ca. 10 m im Durchmesser und großer handförmiger Belaubung, bestehend aus ca. 12 cm langen, ovalen, zugespitzten, glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits behaarten Blättern. Die großen ca. 18 cm, langgestielten, hängenden, wachsartigen, creme-weißen, duftenden Blüten mit ca. 10 cm langen gekräuselten Petalen und dichten Büscheln rosafarbener Staubfäden erscheinen einzeln und öffnen sich nur nachts, dene eßbare ca. 30 cm kugelförmige, ovale oder auch länglich elliptischen behaarte Früchte mit faserigem weißem Fruchtfleisch folgen

Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: ca. 3-6 weeks
Irrigation: in the growing season moderate water + let dry between watering
Fertilization: monthly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: cactus or potting soil + 2/3 sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 15-20°C + keep constant slightly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at around 15°C and water only sporadically in larger intervals and small quantities, keep dry during the leafless time.
Note: drought-resistant!
