immergrüner Strauch bis ca. 4 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen, lanzettlichen, tiefgrünen Blättern mit auffällig, heller Äderung. Die kleinen, röhrenförmigen, roten Blüten mit weißen Spitzen und roten-rosafarbenen Deckblättern erscheinen in hängenden, dichten Büscheln. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich kleine eßbare Früchte mit süßem Geschmack
