Pyrenacantha
Synonyme: Pyrenacantha vitifolia, Pyrenacantha menyhartii

caudexbildende, zweihäusige, krautige Kletterpflanze bis zu 10 m und mehr mit wechselständig angeordneten, sehr variablen, bis zu 9 cm langen und 7 cm breiten, ovalen bis nierenförmigen, an der Basis herzförmigen, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die gelblich-grünlichen, männlichen Blüten erscheinen in ca. 3 cm langen, dichten Ähren, weibliche sind kürzer mit ca. 1,5 cm langen Ähren und erscheinen vor dem Laubaustrieb. Aus den Blüten entwickeln an ca. 2,5 cm langen Stielen, gelblich-orange Steinfrüchte in Büscheln.
Alle Teile sind borstig behaart und die Knollen können ein Gewicht bis zu 5 kg und einen Durchmesser von 30 cm erreichen!
