laubabwerfender, vielverzweigter Baum bis zu 12 m mit kompakter Krone, knorrigen Zweigen und gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 6,5 cm langen und 4,5 cm breiten, eiförmigen, ledrigen, oberseits glänzend dunkelgrünen, unterseits helleren Blättern mit auffallender Nervatur. Die duftenden, gelblich-grünen Blüten färben im Alter zu orange und erscheinen in kurzen, dichtverzweigten Trauben in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von ca. 1,9 cm langen, ovalen oder rundlichen, bei Reife rot, braun oder orangefarbenen Früchten, die jeweils 1-2 kaffeeähnliche Samen enthalten.
Verwendung: Strychnos henningsii wird in der traditionellen Medizin, zur Behandlung von Rheuma, reinigende Wirkung bei Magen-Darm-Erkrankungen und Schlangenbissen angewendet. Das Holz ist schwer, hart, haltbar und Terminenresistent und wird zum Bau von Zäunen, Pfählen und Hütten verwendet.
